The staircase decides whether a loft works
Before anyone talks about roof lights or en suites, the question is whether a compliant flight can be fitted that hits head height at the top and does not swallow the landing at the bottom. So it is the first thing we look at. Rise, going, head height over the flight and where it lands, measured on site. If the geometry does not work we will tell you at the free visit rather than after you have paid for drawings.
Trussed roofs change the answer
The newer housing around Hildenborough and the town edges is mostly trussed rather than cut. A trussed roof has no usable void, because the webs run right through where the room would be, and converting one means structural alteration rather than carpentry alone.
It is still doable, but it is a different job with a different price and it needs an engineer. We will say which sort of roof you have on the first visit, because it changes the conversation completely.
