Why matching matters more here
In most of Kent, second fix trim is a functional item. In Tunbridge Wells it is part of what the house is worth. A Victorian villa with 180mm moulded skirting and a new room finished in 119mm torus reads as compromised the moment you walk in, and it shows in a valuation.
So we take a profile from the existing trim and either source the closest genuine match or have it run. It costs more than buying off a rack and it takes longer to arrive, which is why we raise it at quote stage rather than on the day the trim turns up.
Hardwood, and where it is worth it
Budgets here generally allow for hardwood, but that does not mean it belongs everywhere. Painted MDF gives a cleaner line on panelling and cupboard doors that are going to be sprayed, and on a painted finish nobody can tell what is underneath.
Where hardwood earns its cost is anywhere the grain is visible or the piece takes daily wear: handrails, stair parts, window seat lids, a desk top. We will tell you which is which rather than quoting the most expensive option across the board.
